IT support works best when every request has a clear place to be recorded and someone responsible for following it through. Getting started does not require a complicated process.
Start with a simple inventory
List devices, applications, service accounts, and their owners. Keep access credentials separate from the general inventory. Update the list when people join or leave the business.
Choose one request channel
A ticket system or dedicated address helps prevent requests from getting lost in personal conversations. For each issue, record who is affected, what happened, and when it started. Staff should also know how to report an urgent outage.
Assign ownership
Give each request one person who follows it through to closure, even if another supplier must provide the fix. Record the resolution and what could prevent the issue from returning.
Review recurring requests regularly. They can reveal where documentation, training, or a technical change is needed.
